Consultant Psychiatrist/Medical Director

Dr. Tinuola Akande is the medical director of Pearl specialist clinic, Airdrie, Canada. She obtained her primary medical degree from the University of Ibadan, Nigeria, and proceeded to the Republic of Ireland for her residency in Psychiatry. She is a seasoned psychiatrist with a diploma in Clinical Psychiatry from the Royal College of Physicians and Surgeons of Ireland. She is also a member of the Royal College of Psychiatrists, United Kingdom, and a fellow of the Royal College of Physicians of Canada.

Dr. Akande is an experienced psychiatrist who is licensed to practice in 3 different countries and has a great understanding of psychiatric presentations in different population groups. She was the physician member on the board in charge of women in the perinatal period in Saskatchewan and a member of the child and youth working group in Northern British Columbia.

In addition, Dr. Tinuola worked as a clinical assistant professor of psychiatry at the University of Saskatchewan, where she was involved in teaching resident doctors. She has a great passion for adolescents and young adults and finds working with this population very rewarding. She also finds interest in working with people who struggle with eating disorders. In fact, she was the consultant psychiatrist in charge of the eating disorder program at the University Hospital of Northern British Columbia. Prior to setting up her private practice in Airdrie, Alberta, she pioneered an exclusive adolescent psychiatric outpatient clinic in Northern British Columbia.

Dr. Tinuola is a wife, a mother to two boys, and a person greatly loved by her family and friends, and clients for her compassion and selflessness. In her leisure time, she enjoys spending time at home and connecting with her friends.

Consultant Child and Adolescent Psychiatrist

Dr Oladapo Soyemi is a Child and Adolescent Psychiatrist who obtained his medical degree from the University of Ibadan, Nigeria. With over 2 decades of work experience across 3 continents, he has honed on his skills as a passionate and dedicated psychiatrist with training in Ireland and England before he started working in Regina, Saskatchewan in 2013 following his relocation to Canada. He has gathered a wealth of experience across a multitude of settings including inpatient and outpatient care, acute emergency room presentations, and as a consult liaison specialist. Over the span of his career, he has been involved in the care of children and adolescents and their families presenting with a variety of mental health conditions including ADHD, depressive disorders, anxiety disorders, disruptive behaviors, eating difficulties, school problems, amongst other metal health concerns in Ireland, UK, and Canada. He takes great pride in being able to work effectively in a multidisciplinary setup to provide to most comprehensive, evidence-based care to patients and their families. In addition  to his clinical duties, he has been actively involved in  the training of residents and medical students of the University of Saskatchewan where he hold the position of an assistant clinical professor. He is a member of the Royal College of Psychiatrists, UK and a fellow of the Royal College of Physicians of Canada. He also holds a diploma in Clinical Psychiatry from the Royal College of Physicians and Surgeons of Ireland.

He is a husband and father to 3 wonderful children who, in his spare time, enjoys traveling with his family, biking, watching movies, and connecting with friends and loved ones.

Profile

Olumide functions within our multidisciplinary team both as the clinic manager, and the community psychiatric Nurse. He started his career practicing for 6 years as a qualified veterinary surgeon where he managed his private practice successfully. He later progressed to academia and completed two Master's degrees; one in veterinary research and the other in public health. His academic research experience in epidemiology and population health and a stint in project cycle management stirred up his interest in the field of health service management, mental health and addictions.

Olumide became passionate about mental health and pursued a nursing program in psychiatry shortly after his family relocated to Canada. He is currently a registered psychiatric Nurse in Alberta with both Adolescent and Adult inpatient experiences. He also has an extensive community psychiatry practice experience. Olumide has a good understanding of the social determinants of health, the biopsychosocial approach to understanding and managing mental illnesses as well as the impact of effective robust community intervention towards reducing the burden of mental health in society. His excellent management, problem solving and organization skills, continues to be of great value to the clinic.

In his spare time, he enjoys spending time with his family, watching soccer games and movies as well as making occasional road trips.

Oluwaseun is a seasoned academic with 10 years of experience teaching and mentoring undergraduate and graduate students. She is a member of the Canadian Counselling and Psychotherapist Association (CCPA). A member of Counselling Association of Nigeria (CASSON). She has 20 publications to her credit, published in international and local journals in Nigeria. She has counselled and mentored over 500 undergraduate students who are doing well academically and in their career. She is a graduate of the University of Ibadan, Nigeria, where she obtained her PhD in Counselling Psychology and M.Ed. in Adolescents Psychology and Youth Counselling. She also obtained a diploma in Addictions and Community Service Worker Program from CDI College, Calgary. 

Her area of specialization includes sex and marital Counselling, adolescent counselling, and family counselling. She specializes in using Cognitive Behaviour Therapy, Dialectical Behavioral Therapy, Solution Focused Brief Therapy, and Mentored Self-Help Interventions in the treatment of anxiety, depression, and addictions. Oluwaseun loves supporting individuals with low self-esteem and self-worth to discover their capabilities and strength. She especially enjoys helping adolescents navigate the turbulent period that characterize adolescence by supporting them to surmount their identity crisis, build and maintain relationship with family and friends and making a career choice. She altruistically loves to see people happy and achieve their dreams and goals.

Dr. Kido Cullen Edozien, a General Adult and Geriatric Psychiatrist, earned his medical degree from the esteemed Medical University of Warsaw, Poland. After completing his medical internship in Malta, he embarked on his psychiatric residency journey in the Republic of Ireland in 2014. A distinguished member of both the Irish College of Psychiatrists and the Royal College of Psychiatrists, UK, Dr. Edozien brings a wealth of expertise to his practice.

Recently relocating to Canada in January 2024, Dr. Edozien possesses extensive experience in treating a spectrum of conditions, including mood disorders, anxiety, ADHD, and psychotic disorders. As a specialised geriatric psychiatrist, he focuses on the nuanced treatment and management of various forms of dementia and neurological disorders, addressing psychological symptoms such as anxiety, depression, and psychosis secondary to conditions like Parkinson's disease, Multiple Sclerosis, and Huntington's disease.

Driven by a commitment to advancing his knowledge, Dr. Edozien is pursuing a Master's in Neuroscience and Neurodegeneration at the University of Sheffield, UK. Throughout his career, he has demonstrated exemplary leadership, overseeing multidisciplinary teams across diverse healthcare settings, including inpatient units, outpatient clinics, nursing homes, and acute emergency services, during his tenure as a consultant psychiatrist in Ireland.

Dr. Edozien's approach is defined by his passion for delivering quality, evidence-based care. He prioritises empathy, client education, and patient-centred collaboration, empowering individuals to not only manage their mental health but also rediscover joy, happiness, and dignity in their lives.
